Cisco announces a new promotion and bundle for the
Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router.
U7246VXR-ONE28UG1 Bundle
The new bundle gives customers unprecedented value in the Cisco
uBR7246VXR product line by bundling a chassis, Cisco uBR7200-NPE-G1 Network
Processing Engine, and Cisco uBR7200 Series MC28U Broadband Processing Engine (BPE)
at a very attractive price. List Price is $29,000 USD for the bundle and $45,500
USD for a minimum valid configuration. The equivalent list price for a similarly
configured system without the bundle would be $104,500.

Data Sheet Information:
Cisco uBR7246VXR
The Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router is a
service-enabling, communications-grade cable modem termination system (CMTS)
that offers carrier-class reliability, modular scalability, and significant
investment protection. Because of the Cisco uBR7246VXR's support for a broad
range of features, cable operators can cost-effectively deploy solutions that
address a wide range of density, performance, and service requirements, and feel
confident the router also will support future networking needs. With its
combination of modular performance and density, the Cisco uBR7246VXR allows
network-layer capabilities to be extended to a wide range of network
configurations and environments. One of the primary benefits of the Cisco
uBR7246VXR is its modularity. The Cisco uBR7246VXR works with a variety of line
cards, network interfaces, processors, I/O controllers, and memory options to
offer customers customized configurations to meet network needs.
The Cisco uBR7246VXR features:
- Four cable line cards to connect to the cable plant.
- Two port adapters (one slot for dual-width port adapter) to
connect to the IP backbone and external networks; a range of network interfaces
is available.
- One Cisco network processing engine (NPE) that includes the
choice of the Cisco uBR7200 Series NPE-G1 Network Processing Engine, Cisco
uBR7200 Series NPE-400 Network Processing Engine, or Cisco uBR7200 Series
NPE-225 Network Processing Engine.
- One I/O controller that includes the choice of a standard
I/O controller, controller with one Fast Ethernet port, or controller with two
Fast Ethernet or Ethernet ports for a chassis with a Cisco uBR7200 Series
NPE-400 or Cisco uBR7200 Series NPE-225. For chassis that contain the Cisco
uBR7200 Series NPE-G1, customers have the option of operating with or without an
I/O controller.
- One cable clock card to lock onto and propagate a T1 clock
signal throughout the router midplane.
Cisco uBR7200-NPE-G1
The Cisco uBR7200-NPE-G1 takes advantage of the latest
developments in microprocessors specifically designed for data networking
applications. These chips combine many of the critical components of a network
device onto a single piece of silicon. This conglomeration of components means
that many parts of the system can now run at much faster speeds because they are
located on the same chip, instead of spread across several inches on a printed
circuit board. For example, the processor integrates functions such as the
memory controller, system controller, non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM),
console and auxiliary ports, and Flash storage device controller; all on the
same chip as the system CPU. This means that these devices are now integrated
into a single network processor. Another important technical feature of the
Cisco uBR7200-NPE-G1 is that it includes three Ethernet interfaces as part of
the system CPU. These interfaces, which can run at any speed from 10 Mbps
Ethernet to 1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, are also on the same piece of silicon as
the system CPU. There is no bus bottleneck because the interfaces feed directly
into the CPU at extremely fast internal chip speeds. High-speed LAN interfaces
that once had to share peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus bandwidth
with other port adapters and I/O controllers can be moved to the processor to
free up bus bandwidth for WAN port adapters. The integrated CPU in the Cisco
uBR7200-NPE-G1 has one more technical feature of considerable interest. The
Cisco uBR7200-NPE-G1 introduces a new bus technology to the Cisco uBR7200
Series. The Cisco uBR7200 Series and all port adapters use industry-standard PCI
bus technology. PCI technology helps guarantee that port adapters will be
compatible with any system using an industry-standard PCI bus. Using such a
standardized and well-known technology has led to other products from Cisco,
such as the Cisco 7200, 7500, and 7600 series, all of which use port adapters
supported on the Cisco uBR7200 Series. Recently, PCI standards have led to the
development of a new standard bus technology known as Lightning Data Transport (LDT)
or HyperTransport.
Cisco uBR7200 Series MC28U
The Cisco uBR7200 Series MC28U Broadband Processing Engine is a
cable line card that brings new choices and capabilities to the Cisco uBR7246VXR
Universal Broadband Router platform. The line card features dedicated media
access control (MAC) layer hardware for maximum performance in large-scale cable
deployments. The line card offers two downstream modulators, an integrated
upconverter, and eight upstream burst receivers on a single line card that
embeds the most advanced RF capabilities for the Cisco uBR7246VXR.
